What is a Red Cross Youth Council?
The Red Cross Youth Council is a youth service group that helps the Red Cross fulfill its humanitarian mission of preventing, preparing for and responding to emergencies. Working closely with the American Red Cross of Hancock and Wyandot counties, youth council members participate in Red Cross service projects that impact their community and the world. Student members will discover many new opportunities for self-awareness and develop leadership and organizational skills while meeting new people and having fun.
The Red Cross Youth Council is a team effort, where Red Cross volunteers and staff and Youth Council students all work together to make their communities safer, healthier, and prepared.
Youth Council members:
· Learn lifesaving skills
· Get trained in disaster response
· Educate their classmates about disaster planning
· Participate in fun activities, such as collecting supplies for overseas military, helping at blood drives,
and more
What makes Red Cross Youth Council so special?
You learn new skills – whether it’s being trained in CPR and first aid, or becoming a mentor to young children – there are lots of ways the American Red Cross can teach you to save a life and to help others. It could help you discover a career path in care giving or emergency assistance fields. You’ll feel proud of what you accomplish, it’s rewarding, it’s FUN, and it looks great on college applications. Gain valuable organizational and leadership skills while helping to fulfill the Red Cross’ humanitarian mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering.
What are the goals of Red Cross Youth Councils?
Red Cross Youth Council goals are designed to fulfill the mission of the American Red Cross, which is to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Red Cross Youth Councils are committed to:
· Improving the lives of our fellow students and others who live in the community
· Providing educational programs for their classmates and younger children that will help them develop
lifesaving skills.
· Assisting the Red Cross in preparing our schools, families, and communities for disasters
· Supporting the work of their local Red Cross through fundraising activities
· Encouraging all interested students to become members, regardless of sex, race, or national origin
· Upholding the principles that educate, encourage, and empower them as role models and set them on a
path to be current and future leaders
Who can join?
ALL interested high school students in Hancock and Wyandot counties, especially those who are interested in helping to make their school and community a safer place to live.
